Flower Plates

These plates, some with a brown and others with a white ground, were used as dessert plates when the imperial dining table was laid with the Grand Vermeil Service.

A tradition within the Habsburg family

Within the Habsburg family there was a tradition which dictated that every archduke had to learn a manual craft or trade. Emperor Franz II/I (1768-1835) decided to learn the trade of gardening.

As he loved flowers, the Vienna Porcelain Manufactory was commissioned to produce two series of floral plates.
