Old French Centrepiece

The Old French Centrepiece was commissioned in Paris in 1838 to mark the coronation of Emperor Ferdinand as king of Lombardy and Venetia in Milan.

The old French Centrepiece

To date no sources have been found that enable a secure attribution to potential makers. Additional items for the centrepiece, including the circular mirror plateaux, were made by the Viennese court bronze-worker Johann Georg Danninger between 1843 and 1846.

Comprising several different parts, the centrepiece was made of gilded bronze and consists of rectangular and circular mirror plateaux and figural épergnes with sockets for candles or a compôte dish.
